NAACP Mission Statement
Our mission is to achieve equity, political rights and social inclusion by advancing policies and practices that expand human and civil rights, eliminate discrimination, and accelerate the well being, education and economic security of black people and all persons of color.
THIS IS WHAT WE DO
Tennessee NAACP advocates local units as the ultimate expression of grassroots democracy. Tennessee NAACP supports the capacity of each Branch, Youth Council and College Chapter acting on behalf of and in close concert with the people of its community;
(a) to envision the future of effective government in its community;
(b) to establish a structure and environment that allows all citizens to reach their maximum potential;
(c) to provide accountability for the community on performance of the General Assembly, and to serve as the key community advocate for those nameless and faceless individuals whom they serve.
WE ARE THE NAACP
Founded in 1909, the NAACP is the nation’s oldest and largest Civil Rights organization. Its’ more than 600M adult and youth members throughout the U.S. and the world are premier advocates for social justice, equal opportunity and civil rights in their communities.
Conducts voter registration & education campaigns and monitoring equal opportunity in the public & private sector throughout the nation. The association represents more than 2200 units.
NAACP policy is determined by the Delegate Assembly at the National Convention and local NAACP units. The 64 member Board of Directors translates this policy into action. Programs and services are administered by the NAACP President/CEO and staff.
